Les Peupliers is ideally situated between Saumur & Chinon in the Western part of the Loire Valley. It is an ideal base to discover a wealth of treasures in the area. Here are some of our favourites:

Saumur is home to the internationally famous National Riding School ‘Cadre Noir’ which offers a programme of public performances and galas throughout the year. The town itself is charming with it’s splendid medieval buildings, bustling Saturday market, tank & cavalry museums and cafés.

Fontevraud Abbey is one of the largest surviving monastic cities from the Middle Ages. Eleanor of Aquitaine, her husband Henry II and their son Richard the Lionheart are buried in the Abbey Church.

Chateau Villandry is the last of the great chateaux of the Loire built during the Renaissance. It’s elegant architecture & outstanding gardens make this a ‘must see!’

The medieval town of Chinon is a town steeped in history and rich with culture. The winding streets up to the castle are lined with small shops, inns, and cafes with cobbles and timber houses dating back to the fifteenth century.

Montsoreau & Candes St. Martin. Two of France’s 100 prettiest villages right on our doorstep. The riverside flea market  is held every second Sunday of the month.

If you enjoy cycling, “La Loire à Vélo” is for you! This 800km cycle trail runs very close to Les Peupliers. Maps are available to do short sections of it, or if you prefer, cycle to one of the villages, pick up some cheese and a baguette and sit by the banks of the river Loire enjoying a picnic.
